Author’s Notes: This fic ended up being focused very heavily on misogyny and how consent seems, on the surface, to be a very different issue for men and women. Women tend to be exposed to a more threatening attitude towards ownership of their body, and consent is often something terrifyingly important. And when a man has his agency ripped away like that, they’ve got to deal with internalised misogyny and in Draco’s case a certain amount of internalised homophobia, that in some way he had to deserve it. But I also wanted him to have survived one of the most horrific experiences and be in most ways stable and LIVING, rather than just surviving

The prompts for the fest covered a whole myriad of things, from verbal and non-verbal cues, communication and the enthusiastic-consent model, to kink negotiation and safewords, but for me, there was a quote in an everyday feminism article which I think really sums up what I was going for in this fic: “Just as your partner does not have to do anything with you that they’re not comfortable with, you don’t have to do anything with your partner that you’re uncomfortable with – even if the source of your discomfort is your partner’s body language or the tone of their voice.”

Author’s Notes: Wow! I can’t believe it, but this giant beast of a fic is completed! When I first submitted the above prompt, I never thought I’d be the one to claim it! Yet here we are. It’s been such a long three months, and there’re several people I need to thank for helping pull this fic through! First, I want to thank <a href=“http://makoninah.tumblr.com/” rel=“nofollow”>makoninah</a>, whose <a href=“http://makoninah.tumblr.com/post/165163758757/this-idea-was-quite-striking-for-me” rel=“nofollow”>lovely art piece</a> helped to inspire part of the interpretation of what you’ll see for Harry’s powers, and I also wanted to thank her for granting permission for me to use this idea in the fic.
