For any of you who are writing ‘across the pond’-here is a little guide I put together of some common differences between British and American English!
Also for all of us non-native speakers who don’t know which fucking English we’re even using
swedes = rutabaga
rubbers = erasers
as it comes = without any alterations (”I’d like this sandwich on the menu, please.” “As it comes?”)
can I have = can I get
put out the bins = take out the trash
dummy = pacifier
nappy = diaper (and then nappy bag = diaper bag)
bag/handbag = purse
purse = wallet (specifically for “women’s” accessories)
the entire concept of dick being perceived as probably the most annoying robin amongst gotham’s underworld because he wouldn’t stop talking w/ everyone is so hilarious to me because it’s canon gotham rogues would complain to batman to get him to shut up
he literally annoyed them with his constant uplifting quips and once he stopped the robin gig and bad guys thought they FINALLY got a breather, there comes nightwing with even more mid-fight chatting
I think the least believable part of the Harry Potter novels is the idea that all these feathery quills and pet cats are getting along in perfect harmony. Let me tell you, J.K. Rowling, not a thing would get done at Hogwarts!
i dont know when it happened but somewhere along the way “shipping” got a new meaning for younger folk that seems to translate to “i want these people together for real asap”. i think the media had something to do with it. but guys.
guys.
shipping absolutely Does Not mean demanding anything from people/creators. shipping isn’t about expecting and waiting for the day it will certainly happen. it is not a direct translation to Happen Or Die.
shipping means you like the idea of two (or more) people together. you like the concept. you find it fun to imagine the dynamics. you even create fanon content of it (fic, art, edits). it’s all in your head and it’s Fine that way.
is it nice to have a ship become canon? oh my god, yes. but that’s not what shipping is about and yall need to take a step back and breathe because being a jerk to people aint gonna change their mind about ships.
one of the best heartwarming scenes between Zuko and Iroh. The fact that Zuko is truly repentant and Iroh is unconditionally forgiving despite everything he’s endured. And of course, they can make you cry one moment and laugh in the next.
Plz tell me that I was not the only one who watched “The Land Before Time” and thought that eating vegetables hanging off the corners of my mouth like they did in the film made me a “long neck.” 🦕🍃
