NV (and beto in texas) are both good examples of how shifting demographics and a fantastic effort to GOTV and back candidates can cause seismic shifts in states. Beto got within 3% of winning in *texas*. And Rosen won by 8% a race that was expected to be super close.
The dem machine in Nevada is freaking amazing to watch in action, and Beto helped build one a lot like it in Texas. Yes it’s disappointing he lost, but he barely lost and the work that went into his campaign can have long reaching and lasting effects and I can see a similar story in Texas as what happened to Nevada between 2000 and 2018.
Nevada went from purple to mostly blue. Texas can go from red to purple for the same combination of demographics and party effort.
I’d be remiss in not pointing out that a HUGE part of the Democratic win in Nevada was thanks to the unions helping get out the vote.
Unions are important in a myriad of ways but they’ve always been a big part of Nevada politics and know exactly which way to go to ensure their workers have people in government who represent their best interests.
