re: Pennywise/IT/etc: nowhere in the novel or the films is IT coded as being a “gay” character–like, very specifically, IT is something that LURES children, but never in a sexual manner? On top of that, the actual monster that IT is–the actual cosmic, shapeshifting horror–is revealed to be female at the end of the novel; Pennywise the Clown is just one of the many forms it takes, and said to be its favorite, because clowns terrify children and IT prefers to eat things that are scared of it.

Huh. That’s interesting.

Then I wonder where the undercurrent theme of homophobia comes from that several posts that have crossed my dash (I’m literally swamped in so many posts about IT, I cannot escape from this childhood horror) have mentioned. (I think maybe one of them mentioned IT, despite having varied victims in terms of age and gender, particularly going after effeminate boys?? But idk)

I think there’s still something to be said about the allegorical implications tied to a monster that lures and devours children. (even if there isn’t necessarily anything that implies more on the surface reading of a text)

I’d seen that “IT is revealed to be female (and pregnant?) at the novel’s end” thing once on my dash, but I wasn’t sure if it wasn’t some kind of shitpost, cause that seemed really wild to me. But I appreciate that confirmation (and I’m also glad now that I didn’t accidentally spoil a friend who’s reading IT for the first time by sharing that info).

“because clowns terrify children” Well, IT’s certainly right about that, lmao!

Thanks for taking the time to explain this to me, tho!

Once you get this you have to say five things you like about yourself, publicly. then you have to send this to ten of your favourite followers (non-negotiable, positivity is cool~) 🌈

Hmmm… 5 things i like about myself. Let’s see

1. My love for reading, definitely (whether it be fanfic or original fic) just because I was not into reading all that much when I was younger, but all it took was for a good series to light that spark in me. Now I’ve found so many different worlds and stories I deeply enjoy, and made friends through them, that I wouldn’t have otherwise. It’s definitely something that makes me happy

2. How, whenever I start a project or task, I tend to give it my all – which certainly helps me to enjoy whatever I’m doing (though it does have its downside of ‘the fear of failure at my best’ that probably adds to my procrastination problems and might be why I haven’t written anything in months)

3. I like how I do try to keep an open mind about most things, and try to listen and learn more before forming an opinion myself, and, in that, I still have the ability to learn.

4. My ability to solve tough jigsaw-type puzzles, being able to sort of just glance at a piece, scan around and find where it goes almost immediately (the two 3D kind that I’ve done have been the most exciting and complex so far)

5. My love for rpgs, mostly for the same reasons I love reading (except I was a fan of them from a young age)
