Hey folks, another big recall just hit the states, for both refrigerated and frozen products. Read up, and be careful out there!

And if you need to stay updated, FoodSafety.gov has an RSS feed listed under Recalls & Alerts > Get Automatic Alerts.

now i gotta go thru my fridge

I love living in a country where every three days the FDA or the CDC has to announce which foods will kill us this week and which ones won’t.

This is a possible listeria outbreak, it’s no joke

Please check the food in your fridge.

I always knew AfterEllen.com was cryptoTERF trash but looks like they’re really showing where they stand now.

I don’t know how long this has been in the works but the last week of their Twitter profile is enough:

As well as supporting meghan murphy they are really pushing the idea of trans women as male predators. Miranda Yardley is an English trans woman who repeats TERF talking points for them and was very well received for opposing updating the Gender Recognition Act in the UK. The reference to Stonewall UK also suggests that the new staff are completely in bed with English TERFs, who have links to US Evangelical funding.

Stop supporting After Ellen, the name has essentially been bought out to promote a fascist agenda which wants to remove all trans people from existence and then work on doing the same to the rest of the LGBT community (whether individual contributors admit it or not).

Yeah afterellen was bought out and no longer is an independant website. No surprise they’re terfs bc thats the kind of agenda straight men controlling lesbian websites love 2 push

Yah. Past AE peeps are NOT impressed with what’s happened, what with now being so openly transphobic, as well as literally erasing ALL work from authors who are trans-inclusive and all articles that spoke positively about trans people in any manner whatsoever.

Current AfterEllen staff is literally erasing the voices of all the women who came before them. And yet people still ask for proof of how TERFs hurt cis women. Well there you fucking go. A bunch of men and TERFs have decided that all of the cis women they disagree with don’t deserve to have a voice anymore than trans women do.

Thank you @ritualofthehabit and @hrefnatheravenqueen for elaborating!

Removing past articles is particularly cruel and damaging because as the writer in an above tweet pointed out, it can erase a huge body of their work. They might have their own digital or hard copies, but beyond being Orwellian it wipes out writing samples they can point to and can undermine their credentials when trying to cite their own work.

!!!

U tampons by Kortex are being recalled because of a fault meaning they’re leaving pieces of tampon in the body after they’ve been removed. It’s mainly affecting people in the US and Canada, and people who bought products before 16th October 2018.

Please if you use this product check the box for the serial number (block of numbers on the same face as the barcode):

Find out more info on their official website here

Stay safe and please share this so other people don’t continue to buy faulty tampons!

some context for yahoo’s excellent product management that not a lot of people know about:

remember yahoo instant messenger? i’m guessing basically everyone stopped using that after like the early 2000s. but until about two years ago, almost all of the world’s oil trading was conducted through yahoo instant messenger. every day hundreds of millions of barrels, billions of dollars in equity, was traded by a bunch of dudes through yahoo instant messenger. traders and brokers loved that they could be speaking with tons of people at once, and their compliance officers loved that there was a transcript of conversations and deals left behind for auditing and regulatory purposes.

but yahoo decided, perhaps reasonably on the surface, that they did not want to support this service anymore. they wanted to migrate the messaging platform onto something a bit more integrated and 21st century. except their new service was not compatible with any kind of conversation-recording capability, so traders would not be allowed to use it anymore for compliance purposes.

chaos. billion dollar companies all around the world were scrambling. how would they conduct their business? i know this sounds silly, but traders talk to hundreds of people a day, brokers are showing them markets all day long. phones are inefficient and not all are set to record. they explained to yahoo what the compliance issue was. they offered to pay – these companies can afford any kind of subscription necessary. they assured yahoo that a massive pillar of the world’s economy, as fucking insane as it sounds, is actually conducted through their service. just let us use it. (here’s a reuters article about it, and here’s a financial times article on it)

yahoo didn’t change its plans.

now everyone uses something else to trade the world’s oil.

For those unaware because staff isn’t saying it

Tumblr was deemed too full of inappropriate content to be allowed to be downloaded from the app store.

It has this “inappropriate” problem because of rampant porn ad bot accounts. The old solutions were bots to detect image sets with nsfw content, the automatically enabled safe mode, tag filtering for mobile, and wide takedowns of nsfw bots based on words used (that’s why their messages are full of numbers and symbols, to evade this)

Tumblr released their own bot supposedly capable of wiping the ad bots, but it’s taking down many popular blogs, possibly due to sheer amounts of posting or sheer amounts of ad bots in their notes. This bot was likely rushed to be put out.

You are more likely to be accidentally flagged if you post external links, as well. If your acct is taken down you CAN get it back, but it’s a pain. E-mail tumblr support for help with this. It takes down side blogs with the main ones.

I’ll be halting posts for about a week or until this problem is fixed.

Hey there US friends! If you’re voting using these machines (Hart eSlate) or similar ones right now or in the near future, make sure that the machine has NOT changed your ballot before casting it, ‘k? It’s apparently an already known problem, and has been for years, but has never been fixed.

Kavanaugh Thinks It’s Okay to Perform Elective Surgery on People Without Their Consent

I am not kidding, I am not exaggerating: this makes him a eugenicist.  They are literally trying to put a eugenicist on the Supreme Court right now.  Write your senators now.

If you have a Republican senator, this is definitely something worth calling about.

The background:

In 2001, three intellectually disabled D.C. residents brought suit against the city in Doe ex rel. Tarlow v. D.C, after they were subjected to at least three involuntary procedures: two abortions and one elective eye surgery. Ultimately, the district court agreed that these women’s due process rights had been violated and that “constitutionally adequate procedures” had not been followed.

On appeal [2007], Judge Kavanaugh vacated the District Court’s injunction, arguing that “accepting the wishes of patients who lack, and have always lacked the mental capacity to make medical decisions does not make logical sense.”

Potential script:

“I am a voter from [city], and I found out that, in 2007, Judge Kavanaugh ruled that performing abortions without the woman’s consent was legal and acceptable. I believe this is a terrible violation of rights. I urge the senator to vote against Kavanaugh because he supports involuntary abortions.”

(Ideally, “I urge Senator [name] to vote against…”)

Potential more script:

“At the very least, I urge the senator to request that Kavanaugh explain which abortions are acceptable.”

The way to refer to the case, if that’s needed, is “Doe Tarlow vs DC.”

How to call your senator

Underlined PSA

Figment, the recently closed writing website, has just launched (after a long delay) their long-awaited successor to figment known as Underlined, where users can post their work and receive feedback, supposedly.

DO NOT USE UNDERLINED. DO NOT POST YOUR WORK ON UNDERLINED.

Underlined’s terms and conditions contains a clause stating that the rights to all your work that you post on their website belongs to them!!!!

Underlined belongs to Penguin Random House. This is an extremely dirty trick for them to play on writers, especially young writers and children, who come to the internet to get feedback and will lose the rights to their work. Please boost!!!

For my writing friends looking for an online writing community, DO NOT USE Underlined.

I went to confirm @greater-than-the-sword‘s post, because seriously publishers are still pulling this garbage?  And yes, they are.  If you want to check out the full terms and conditions, have at it.  They are full of writers’ nightmares, a few of which I’ll highlight under the cut.

Be aware guys

As someone who used to use Figment, I would really strongly recommend NOT using Underlined. DO NOT USE Underlined.

@thebibliosphere signal boost for writers

Ugh, how is this still a thing.
